Jody Wakeman (prev. Christian)

Jody has been playing the trombone since the age of twelve and quickly got involved with playing in various groups both in and out of school.
In 2003 Jody seized the opportunity to return to studying music, completely her BCCM in 2005; this degree in Contemporary Christian Music featured both trombone performance and song-writing/composition. She then continued her composition studies at Waikato University earning her BMus(Hons)(Comp).
Jody is committed to her own professional development. In 2007 a series of solo performances culminated in Jody achieving a distinction in her Trinity Recital Diploma (ATCL). She has also attended the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's Summerschool in 2008, 2009 and 2010 as principal trombonist.
Since 2005 Jody has been developing her teaching career with both private and itinerant teaching; teaching children as young as five and six, up to adults in their...well I probably shouldn't say...!!! Most of her teaching at the moment is in primary and intermediate schools, including Southwell School where Jody has been the brass tutor since 2005 and she conducts the school orchestras and has established a brass ensemble and Jazz Band. She also directs the Hukanui School Concert Band taking them to the Waikato Primary Schools competition in each year.
Jody has a busy performance schedule being the principal trombonist in the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra. She also takes on short term playing commitments supporting school productions playing music as diverse as 'The Pirates of Penzance', 'Oliver', 'Bye Bye Birdie', 'Annie Get Your Gun' and 'Guys and Dolls' at Southwell School; 'Damn Yankees' and 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' at St Paul's Collegiate.
